MCT oil is great to incorporate into smoothies, coffees, or salad dressings. MCT oil is flavorless and stays in liquid form even when refrigerated unlike coconut oil, which makes it easy to add into your diet. We now know that ideally MCT oils like coconut oil should actually be consumed every day and are in fact easier to digest than long-chain triglycerides (LCTs) and might even have more benefits related to heart health and brain health.
What are MCTs? MCT stands for medium-chain triglycerides, a form of saturated fatty acid. MCTs are absorbed right away and taken to the liver, where they are used directly for energy instead of being stored as fat.
4 ways to use MCT oil:
- Drink it! Add it to iced coffee or lattes to create a paleo/dairy free bulletproof coffee or add to smoothies or shakes.
- Bake with it! Replace conventional oils with MCT oil, you can use 1/4 to 1/3 of the coconut oil for MCT oil instead.
- Mix it! And lastly, you can replace the oil (or part of the oil) in your homemade salad dressings and homemade mayo with MCT oil.
